Letting Go For The Night||Alex & Colin
Alex laughed sliently at Colin’s joke and erased the old message to type a new one. ‘The stuff every dog needs. His food, his toys, his favorite bedtime story, an old shirt of mine, and his nightlight. Believe it or not, he terrifed of the dark.‘ He flashed the phone at Colin so he could read it then reached out to pet Roxas. He placed his nose on Roxas’ nose and Roxas licked his nose a few times. Alex smiled and then kissed him on his nose.
Colin nodded, “Thanks, Alex, this is a giant help! I’ll go into town with Adrian to buy some more. And don’t worry, I keep the TV running all through the night,” Colin looked fondly at the sight of the boy and his dog. It was too bad Alex wanted to give up his dog, they really did have a special bond and Roxas would take some time familiarising with Colin. “It won’t be too bad, I mean, you can come over and visit whenever you want!”
Alex smiled at Colin’s offer and then leaned forward to hug him. There was no doubt in his mind that he had chosen the right person to look after Roxas. He pulled away from Colin then wisphered in Roxas’ ear. Roxas barked and then reached out his paw at Colin. Alex waited to see if Colin would understand what to do next.

Alex pulled his cellphone from his pocket and went to the notepad app. He typed a message. ‘I’m sure. Besides, Spencer has his hands full looking after his brother.’ He flashed the screen as Colin so he could read the message. He was shocked that Colin was so concerned about his wellbeing. Most people completely ignore him so it was nice to see someone want to know if he was ok.
Roxas moved about in his arms and Colin made sure he wouldn’t drop him. Sure, Roxas wasn’t very heavy at all, but Colin wasn’t exactly known for his upper body strength. He wriggled around a bit and barked, seemingly reaching towards Alex, “Not sure if he likes me too much yet. Maybe I smell too much like Ireland, eh?” Colin laughed and looked at the duffel bag Alex had brought over. “What’s in there?” he asked, feeling a little silly.

Colin’s voice shook him out of his tearing frenzy. He looked up at him and tried his best to give him a reassuring smile. He nodded to answer Colin’s question then looked at Roxas. The puppy wiggled in his arms as Alex kneeled down to the ground. He sat the puppy on the ground and watched as it pawed over to Colin and sniffed his leg. Alex wiped his face clean of the tears and then handed Colin the night bag. Please let this workout. I’ll trusting you, Colin, he thought to himself.
Colin smiled back, bending down to pet Roxas on the head, “Now aren’t you just the little cutie?” He picked Roxas up and held him close to his chest, standing up again. He looked back at Alex and bit his lip in thought, “Alex, are you really sure of this? I know this is just for one night, but you don’t need to give him away. I’m sure your roommate could help you take care of him?”

When Alex finally reached Colin’s dormroom, he took a deep breath. This was a defining moment for him. He was the person who could possible be taking his best friend away from him. He looked down at Roxas and smiled lightly. Roxas barked and licked Alex’s cheek a few times. It was like he was trying to tell Alex that he understood and that he was ok with the current state of things. Alex buried his face into Roxas’ fur and sliently started to cry. He felt like his heart was going to burst out of his chest. It was one of the worse feelings he ever felt in his life. Swallowing the pain, he let his pale hand knock on the door and waited for Colin to answer.
Checking to make sure no potentially dangerous objects lay anywhere, Colin tapped his fingers nervously. He had a dog back in Carlingford but his cousin who had moved in was allergic, so he had to reluctantly give his dog away to another family member. It was a Border Collie and at the time, she had been nearly as big as him. and he was sad to see her go. Colin was kicking a stray shoe underneath his bed when he heard the knock at the door. Well, this is as clean as it’s gonna get, he thought absently and opened the door, grinning wide. “Hey, Ale—,” Colin noticed the stricken look on his face and his own expression fell, “You alright?”

Packing up Roxas’ night bag, Alex felt his self begin to feel like it was a mistake. He didn’t want to give Roxas away but there was something telling him that he could give him a better owner and someone who could actually speak commands to him. A small bark came from the closet as Roxas trolled out of the closet. He pawed over to Alex and lightly scratched at his pants leg. Alex smiled and kneeled down to pet him. Their friendship was as strong as any human to human friendship and that was what was killing Alex the most. He was going to be giving away one of his closest friends. Luckily, Colin had told him to give him the night to decide. Alex picked up the golden dog and the night bag then exited the dormroom. He lightly stroked Roxas’ back as he made his way to Colin’s dorm.
Colin cursed his absent roommate. Jeremiah still hadn’t arrived at the school and it was putting a toll on the state of Colin’s room. The absence of a roommate allowed himself to be sloppy, and now he was suffering the consquences. He quickly popped his DVDs back - probably in the wrong cases - and stacked them in the cabinet before gathering his clothes and shoving them all into his laundry basket. Everything looked clean, save for his desk which looked like it had been hit by a tornado, but if Roxas was trained, Colin wouldn’t have to worry about him climbing onto his table.
